In our experience delivering mobility equipment to resorts across Punta Cana, Bávaro, Cap Cana and Uvero Alto, some resorts lend a wheelchair for a special occasion, but only for a couple of hours and never for a whole stay. The resorts that offer this have very few chairs, so availability is limited. In an emergency, a staff member brings one. If you need a wheelchair or mobility scooter for your whole stay, plan to bring one or rent one. Dominican Mobility delivers wheelchairs and mobility scooters to your resort, from $21 per day for a manual wheelchair, and no security deposit is required for most reservations.

What to expect at a Punta Cana resort
| Question | What we find at the resorts we deliver to |
|---|---|
| Will the resort lend me a wheelchair? | Only for a special occasion, and for a couple of hours at most. Resorts that lend chairs have very few, and none lend them for a whole stay. In an emergency, staff bring one. |
| Are there ramps? | Yes, in the main areas. But steps are also common, often right next to the ramp, so the ramp is not always the obvious route. |
| Are there elevators? | Yes. The resorts we deliver to have elevators to their upper floors. |
| Can I use a golf cart to get around? | Only at the largest resorts, and only with a staff driver on fixed routes. Golf carts are not available on demand. |
Can I borrow a wheelchair from my resort in Punta Cana?
Only for a short time. In the Punta Cana resorts where we deliver equipment, some resorts lend a wheelchair for a special occasion, for a couple of hours at most and never for the whole stay. Resorts that do this have very few chairs, so availability is limited. In an emergency, the resort sends a staff member with a chair to take the guest where they need to go, and the chair goes back afterwards.
That can work for a special occasion or an emergency. It does not work for getting to breakfast, the pool, the beach and dinner every day of a week-long holiday. If you or someone in your group has limited mobility, the practical options are to bring your own equipment on the flight or to rent it locally and have it waiting at the resort.
Are Punta Cana resorts wheelchair accessible?
Partly. The resorts we deliver to have ramps in their main areas: lobbies, restaurants, pool decks and paths between buildings. They also have steps, and in many places the steps and the ramp sit side by side. For a guest using a wheelchair or mobility scooter, that means there is usually a way through, but it is not always the most direct route.
Distance is the bigger challenge. Punta Cana’s all-inclusive resorts are large, and the walk from a room to the main buffet, the beach or the evening show can be long. That distance, repeated several times a day, is what makes a mobility scooter worth considering even for guests who can walk short distances.
Do Punta Cana resorts have golf carts to get around?
Some do, but not in the way most guests hope. In our experience, golf carts exist only at the largest resorts, they are always driven by a staff member, and they run fixed routes. You cannot call one to your door, and you cannot drive one yourself. They are useful for occasional long trips across the property, not for moving around freely during the day.
Do Punta Cana resorts have elevators?
Yes. The resorts we deliver to have elevators to their upper floors, so a guest with a wheelchair or mobility scooter can reach a room above the ground floor.
Wheelchair or mobility scooter: which should you rent?
A manual wheelchair suits a guest who has someone to push them, or who only needs help for part of the day. An electric wheelchair or a mobility scooter suits a guest who wants to get around the resort on their own. Our wheelchair vs. mobility scooter guide compares them in detail.
| Equipment | Price per day | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Walking frames, walkers and rollators | $10 – $17 | Guests who can walk but need support |
| Manual wheelchair | $21 | Guests travelling with someone who can push |
| Electric wheelchair | $30 | Independent movement indoors and on paths |
| Mobility scooters (3- and 4-wheel) | $35 – $55 | Independent movement across large resorts |
